Introduction

Nostr (Notes and Other Stuff Transmitted by Relays) is a simple, open protocol that enables global, decentralized, and censorship-resistant social media.

In this guide, I will walk you through the process of setting up Nostr using GetAlby and Snort.social.

This is easiest to first set up on a laptop or desktop device. Once set up, you can then use with your mobile.

Step 1: Create a GetAlby account

1. Go to https://getalby.com and click Add Browser Extension.

   

2. Click Add to Brave.

   

3. Click Add Extension.

   

4. Create a password and click Next

   

5. Click Sign up

   

6. Enter your email address, create a new password (this is different to the browser password you set earlier, try not to mix these up). Create a Lightning address (this is the address you need to receive Sats)

   

7. You will receive an email. Click the link to confirm your email.

8. Don’t forget to pin GetAlby to your browser.

   1. To access Alby easily, click on the extension icon 🧩 in the top right corner of your browser.
   2. In the list of extensions, find Alby and click the pin icon to pin it to your toolbar.
   3. Thats it! To access Alby just click Alby icon

Step 2: Generate your Nostr Keys

1. In your browser click on the drop-down menu, then click on accounts.

   

2. On the account screen, click the account you’d like to set up Nostr in.
